SCMU v1.3 StarCraft Map Unlapper
|
What it does: Allows editing of the map name of almost any scx/scm map (protected or not). (Does not remove protection).
Pros: Quick, interactive map-name editing. Doesn't mess up other strings or sounds (like Osmap can). Play old lapped games again!
Cons: Early stages of release, glitches may be common. Not compatible with all forms of protection (i.e. cannot unlap every map)

SCPM 5.01 Starcraft Picture Mapper
|
What it does: Converts an image to an scx map. 128x128 size maps only.
Pros: VERY fast image processing. Easy interface. Brightness & contrast adjustments. Adjustable Terrain type.
Cons: Can't customize map colors. Minimap images usually come out brownish/blueish. But still a better program than bmp2scm. Recommended!

| SCM Draft 2 (v0.8.0)
|
What it does: Map editor. This is my editor of choice. It can do 1x1 tile editing as well as importing sounds without bugging out. Once you get used to the different trigger editing style, this is the only map editor you'll ever need.
Pros: Non-buggy sound insertion, 1x1 terrain editing, copy/paste units! (and terrain), grid-sizing, the list goes on...
Cons: Text coloring & lapping is annoying. Text-editing triggers (starforge-style) doesn't work?

| Starforge 2.0
|
What it does: Edit and make starcraft maps! If you make maps, you need this program. Not for the beginner mapper. Warning! If you use SC Xtra along with Starfroge to edit your map, YOU COULD SERIOUSLY SCREW UP YOUR MAP! Make backups often! (I'd recommend making a backup everytime you switch between different editors)
Pros: 1x1 tile editing. Add units/sprites that no other editor can (ie. nuke explosions, unburrow smoke...) Many other cool 'buggy' effects: Edit unit health for wierd colors. Add units/triggers for players 1-255. 2x speed.
Cons: Confusing interface for newbies. Adding Sounds to map is VERY buggy. (take sounds out of map before editing with starforge) Editing triggers needs improvement: Vulnerable to typos. Can't 'disable' an action like unchecking a box in SC Xtra. Can't order triggers easily.

What it does: The map editor for starcraft. Get this program now. Now I said!
Pros: Good, easy interface. Add sounds to your map, edit triggers, locations, terrain, unit properties etc..
Cons: Man if this editor could handle 1x1 tile editing, I might spooch myself. But it doesn't. Too bad.

| Togikon's Map Protector
|
What it does: Protects your scm/scx map. Export .chk file from your map first, protect it, then import it back in.
Pros: Supreme map protection! Latest, greatest map protector out there.
Cons: Takes some getting used to. Need to use 2 different programs (both included) to accomplish protection.

| BroodWar Map Picker
|
What it does: Selects a random map when you host a game. Run program, pick a folder, then host a game in starcraft.
Pros: Small, simple. Good for hosting random bound games or defense etc.. (without having to search through all your folders manually)
Cons: Gets maps from all SUB-folders as well. (All you map-creators watch out you don't host one of your unprotected maps by accident!)

| Bmp2Scm 1.1

What it does: Makes an image into a scx map. Only on 128x128 size maps.
Pros: Original image converter for starcraft. It paved the road for newer and faster programs so show your love.
Cons: Very slow loading images. For every color pixel in the image, you need to assign a tile in starcraft - VERY TEDIOUS! However unlike SCPM, you can select your OWN colors in the map. (I would still recommend using SCPM)

| Scx2Jpg
|
What it does: Grabs minimap or entire map from scx/scm files and saves to an image. Save to jpg/gif/bmp.
Pros: Good for quickly creating images of dozens (or hundreds) of maps at a time.
Cons: Doesn't always get the exact colors in the minimap right. Images come out not looking like the real minimap in-game. (see any images in my bound archive. I used this program)
